Getting ready, almost there actually, in launching my podcast with my wife, Mia. I am certain I’ll have everything together for January 1st, and I will keep you informed of all details, as I believe Mia and I will be doing ground-breaking relationship of a vein you are probably not familiar with. Yes, where most experts urge psychological shrinking and narrowing of your possibilities, Mia and I insist on YOU taking personal responsibility for your life and EXPANDING your life horizons.
Now, are we gonna piss off a few people who just love expensive 12 step programs and slick-tongued psycho-babblers? Surely, and that’s part of the fun, taking the power from these purported ‘experts’, who really could give a shit about you or I, and placing it where it belongs: in your capable hands.

And one email this week I can’t ignore, from Tom H:
“Is it me or is it America? I’ve been out of the country for most of the year traveling and when I got back, I couldn’t help but notice how absorbed Americans are in their I-phones and stuff, but it was also how quiet we are compared to Latin Americans. We don’t even look at each other, Milt. Does this disturb you at all, and do you think I am right?”
Oh, yes, this greatly disturbs me and yes, I think you are spot-on correct, Tom, we Americans are far too absorbed in our individual little worlds, and now with so-called ‘Smart Tech‘, we can be absorbed anywhere we choose. Now, clearly this has some obvious advantages, which there is little reason to list, but the downside of Smart Tech is a society even more separated from one another, and even more demanding of what we expect we should have in our lives.
As for silence, my word, Tom, it amazes me how loud and playful Latin Americans are, for instance, how in-your-face they are with their curiosity over other people’s lives. You step off the plane in, say, Sao Paolo, and you can literally feel the cultural differences, the warmth of the people, the eagerness to get to know you, the desire to take all the time in the world lingering over whatever they choose to linger over, versus our rapid-fire gotta-get-going mentality and out it’s-nobody’s-business-what-I-am-doing cynical attitude. In the 3rd world, friends, whatever you are doing IS other people’s business.
Thus, we have a clear, stark example of the differences between our civilization, where we are conditioned to be impersonal, objective and dispassionate, and a culture, where everyone is involved in each other’s lives, things are always personal and people have a subjective attitude towards everything. There are, of course, advantages to each, but coming from our cold and isolated way of living, ti is refreshing to be amongst people who are freed of any got-get-there agenda and who have time to get to know one another.
And with that said, my Dad is in the hospital and I and Mia will be leaving shortly to check in on him.
